Day 13 – Your Company Shapes Your Character
Proverbs 13:20 (NLT) “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”
Devotional Reflection: You don’t just become like the people you admire you become like the people you’re around.
Proverbs reminds us that wisdom is contagious but so is foolishness. The people closest to you either sharpen your purpose or dull your edge. Every relationship is forming something in you: discipline or distraction, clarity or confusion, calling or compromise.
Look at Peter on the night Jesus was betrayed. He had walked with Christ, heard His teachings, witnessed His glory. But in the courtyard surrounded by servants and soldiers, not disciples Peter began to blend in. He denied Jesus not once, but three times.
His courage didn’t just fail his environment fed it.
The shift didn’t start with the rooster’s crow. It started when Peter distanced himself from Jesus and warmed himself by the fire of those who didn’t know Him. The wrong circle exposed the weakness that the right one had helped him overcome.
The people around you influence what rises or dies in you. If you want to walk in wisdom, walk with the wise. Surround yourself with voices that feed your spirit, not flatter your ego. Choose circles that correct, challenge, and sharpen you toward Christ.
Personal Application:
- Who are the three voices closest to me right now? Are they wise?
- Am I becoming more like Christ or just more like my circle?
- What boundaries or changes is God prompting in my relationships?
Prayer: Lord, help me choose my company carefully. Remove me from relationships that weaken my walk, and surround me with those who fear You, seek You, and speak wisdom. Help me to be a person others can walk with in truth, accountability, and grace. Let my circle reflect my calling. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Rooted Truth: “Your circle is either shaping your destiny or sabotaging it. Choose wisely because you’ll walk where they lead.”
