Day 12 – The Way That Seems Right

Proverbs 12:15 (NKJV) “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise.”

Devotional Reflection: You can feel right and still be completely wrong.

Proverbs warns us about the danger of being wise in our own eyes. The problem isn’t just poor choices it’s the illusion of correctness. When you’re convinced you’re right, it’s hard to receive counsel, correction, or even truth. Pride puts blinders on wisdom.

King Saul learned this the hard way. In 1 Samuel 15, God gave him a clear instruction: destroy everything connected to the Amalekites. But Saul, in his own eyes, thought he had a better plan. He spared King Agag and kept the best livestock claiming it was all for sacrifice. When Samuel confronted him, Saul doubled down, insisting, “I’ve obeyed the Lord.”

But partial obedience is still disobedience.

Saul didn’t just disobey he justified it. He replaced God’s voice with his own reasoning, and in doing so, forfeited the throne. One decision rooted in self-trust cost him everything.

Wisdom isn’t just about knowing what’s right. It’s about being willing to be corrected when you’re wrong. The wise don’t cling to pride they pursue counsel. They let truth override ego. They value God’s word above their own opinion.

Personal Application:

  • Do I automatically assume I’m right, or do I invite wise counsel?
  • Where in my life have I justified partial obedience?
  • What voices am I trusting more than God’s instruction?

Prayer: Father, keep me from being wise in my own eyes. Show me when I’m defending my will instead of surrendering to Yours. Surround me with people who speak truth, and give me the humility to listen. I don’t want to lean on what feels right I want to follow what You say is right. Lead me in Your wisdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Truth to Hold: “Just because it feels right doesn’t mean it’s God. Pride sounds like wisdom to a heart that refuses correction.”
